Expeditions

Flipflopi expeditions are powerful at creating impact and awareness. By sailing with our positive message, she brings together all key actors who can turn the tide against plastic - from the media, to school children, businesses, influencers and policymakers.

The goals of our expeditions:

Awareness

We sail to raise awareness of single-use plastic pollution, and showcase solutions to giving plastic a second life.
The 2019 Lamu to Zanzibar expedition brought international media attention to the issue - approximately 890 million people saw our message.

Engagement

We organise multiple events together with local networks that bring together thousands of communities, businesses and policy-makers to share best practices and discuss legislative action.

Impact

Expeditions lead to policy-change, media engagement and create networks of circular-economy movements, providing them the platform to grow and influence their communities.

Lake Victoria 2021

Lamu Archipelago 2022

In February 2022, we set sail on a scientific expedition around the Lamu Archipelago to map the impact of marine litter in the Western Indian Ocean. We used the findings to inform the creation of the Material Recovery and Recycling Facility centre and community network.

In 2021, we sailed around Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria, reaching lakeshore communities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The expedition kickstarted our regional campaign to ban unnecessary single use plastics in the EAC and established partnerships in the Lake Region
